Zumba Party With Mommies Daily And Happy Soya Oil

Of all of the different types of exercise popular here in Jakarta, there are some that I haven’t tried yet. The latest one I experienced was Zumba.

I have seen women dancing in Zumba classes before at my gym, I’m often working out in the free weights area right next to the class but I never tried Zumba because I felt it was more of a dancing class.

Until last Saturday, 11 October 2014, when Mommies Daily invited me to come to their Zumba Party with Happy Soya Oil held at the Meat & Meal Restaurant in South Jakarta.

Held in the restaurant’s second floor private area, there were already some ladies there looking ready to party.

Before the class started, I introduced myself to the Zumba instructor, Ms. Laila Munaf of Sana Studio.

Laila Munaf
As a total newbie, I asked her is Zumba safe enough for someone with a herniated discs like I have. She said it should be relatively safe as long as I am engaging my core at all times and listen to my body like with any other exercise. Zumba does use a lot of hip movements she said therefore I need to be aware of how my body is feeling during the class. Talking to the instructor, she then told me she has scoliosis which is a total surprise; I would never have thought somebody could be a Zumba instructor with a back problem like scoliosis.

Lita Iqtianti – the Managing Editor of Mommies Daily opened the Zumba Party and handed it over to Laila to start.

Lita and Laila
The music was so much fun, it really pumps you up to move along and dance. Laila’s energy is impressive; she was bouncing all over the place pretty much almost without any effort engaging all participants.

One of the things I loved was how she reminded everyone to focus on their breathing. Breathing inappropriately can really slash the effectiveness of your workout!

I was sweating profusely and my heart rate was in the high zone between 150 – 160. The whole time I was smiling and laughing, it was great fun. It was a challenge to get my hands and legs synchronized beautifully like Laila’s. Due to being a beginner, on some moves I kept bumping into the poor girl to my right but we just laughed at it.

The Zumba lasted for an hour; the beat was fun, lively and just made you want to dance. When we were done my heart rate monitor showed 480 calories burned. WOW! And I hadn’t even done all the exercises, I avoided moves that involved thrusting/circling my hips because my lower back has been quite sore for the past few days. Imagine how many calories I would’ve burn had I done every exercise? It’s quite an awesome fat burning class.

The event was sponsored by Happy Soya Oil; they handed out free t-shirts for us to change into. Great idea as we were all sweaty. They then did a small briefing about their product that was previously called Happy Salad Oil. There was a Q&As session too which was interesting as we all got to learned more their product. Great to know that Happy Salad Oil is in full support of healthy lifestyle in Jakarta. New to healthy eating? No worries, small changes are best. First you can start by switching the oil to use at home. Start a soya culture today by switching to Happy Soya Oil.[Tweet “You can start by switching the oil to use at home. We had a fun game where 3 groups of two ladies each are competing to make the best Happy Fruit Salad. It was a great fun. The ladies worked well together. The judges Hanny and Novita from Female Daily picked the winner but complimented everyone for their salad creations.

A delicious and healthy lunch was served after. Bravo for another successful event Mommies Daily!

My goal was to have fun, to step outside of my comfort zone and give Zumba a try and I successfully did just that. Will I add Zumba to my fitness repertoire? I think I might do just that. It’s a great and fun way to get my cardio in.

Happy Zumba Ladies

So for those you who are looking to burn calories, Zumba is a great cardio workout.
