Of all of the different types of exercise popular here in Jakarta, there are some that I haven’t tried yet. The latest one I experienced was Zumba.
I have seen women dancing in Zumba classes before at my gym, I’m often working out in the free weights area right next to the class but I never tried Zumba because I felt it was more of a dancing class.
Before the class started, I introduced myself to the Zumba instructor, Ms. Laila Munaf of Sana Studio.
One of the things I loved was how she reminded everyone to focus on their breathing. Breathing inappropriately can really slash the effectiveness of your workout!
I was sweating profusely and my heart rate was in the high zone between 150 – 160. The whole time I was smiling and laughing, it was great fun. It was a challenge to get my hands and legs synchronized beautifully like Laila’s. Due to being a beginner, on some moves I kept bumping into the poor girl to my right but we just laughed at it.
The Zumba lasted for an hour; the beat was fun, lively and just made you want to dance. When we were done my heart rate monitor showed 480 calories burned. WOW! And I hadn’t even done all the exercises, I avoided moves that involved thrusting/circling my hips because my lower back has been quite sore for the past few days. Imagine how many calories I would’ve burn had I done every exercise? It’s quite an awesome fat burning class.
The event was sponsored by Happy Soya Oil; they handed out free t-shirts for us to change into. Great idea as we were all sweaty. They then did a small briefing about their product that was previously called Happy Salad Oil. There was a Q&As session too which was interesting as we all got to learned more their product. Great to know that Happy Salad Oil is in full support of healthy lifestyle in Jakarta. New to healthy eating? No worries, small changes are best. First you can start by switching the oil to use at home. Start a soya culture today by switching to Happy Soya Oil.
A delicious and healthy lunch was served after. Bravo for another successful event Mommies Daily!
My goal was to have fun, to step outside of my comfort zone and give Zumba a try and I successfully did just that. Will I add Zumba to my fitness repertoire? I think I might do just that. It’s a great and fun way to get my cardio in.
So for those you who are looking to burn calories, Zumba is a great cardio workout.
Have you tried Zumba yet? If so did you enjoy it? And if you haven’t tried it would you like to? Please share your with us what you think in the comment box.
