Wellness Wednesday 3: Why I Love My Body

How many times have I stood in front of the mirror and tear my body apart? One imperfection at a time.

Tummy too soft…

Look at those pudgy thighs…

Boobs sagging…

In split seconds I could bitched about my body like a champion.

Then two years ago I found Dr. Christiane Northrup and her amazing works. I even purchased her book also downloaded her Women’s Wisdom Perpetual Calendar and they became like a bible to me and I strongly recommend it to all women.Love your body enough to move

I am trying to get fit again and instead of wallowing in what I hate about myself, listing what I LOVE about myself might help me change the way I think and feel.

Why I love my body:

  1. I am still able to lift things around the house easily. I can pick up a gallon of bottled water and put it on the water dispenser machine at home with ease. They are roughly 19kg (41lbs) heavy with 19 liters of water in them.
  1. I can carry lots of groceries bag in one go!
  1. I have two strong legs that allow me to squat deep and low – ass to grass you say?
  1. When my son was little although I was overweight, I considered myself to be strong as I lugged around a stroller – a baby – a suitcase and a backpack on our travels.
  1. I now love my wide shoulder and I love working on my shoulder at the gym. I used to hate them growing up because it makes me look a bigger. People used to call it a swimmer’s shoulder, funny because I’m not much of a swimmer.
  1. I love my strong arms. They are the first part of my body that shows signs of differences when I actively workout.
  1. Although I have been keeping my squat off my gym routines for now, thanks to all those squats, my behind still shows how awesome those squats are to our back side. So ladies, get your squat (and deadlift) on!

  1. I may not look as fit as I was two years ago but I still have the muscles memories that still surprised me at the gym at times. Thank you, muscles!
  1. My body is one of a fighter. I may have stretch marks from carrying my son to 35 weeks instead of full term 40 but it did what it had to do in times of emergency. My milk came out despite having an emergency c-section can often lead your body to a total shock thinking the baby died and dried up your milk if you didn’t pump right away. I didn’t even know about this until the nurse told me!
  1. Realizing my body was made perfectly for me lift off such a huge burden of fitting into what the society dictates me. Accepting that I will never be tiny petite like some of my friends are has allowed me to focus on other things that my body can actually do. It allows me to love my body just as I was created. Perfectly in the eyes of my creator.

Thank you for allowing me to link up again! I personally think you look fab in the pictures! It is always easier to see the negatives… we will always see our bodies in a completely different way to how others see us. Always take the positive out of everything! Sim @ Simslife.co.uk x

  3. January 21, 2015 / 9:42 pm

You look amazing in your photographs! And it is so refreshing to see a ‘Why I LOVE my body’ post rather than a ‘Why I HATE my body’. I shall celebrate with you!

This is a must for women to look good and healthy. Women should love their body with limits, not too obssessive

  5. January 22, 2015 / 1:31 am

I am so glad to have discovered your positive blog and Wellness Wednesday on Google +. I love your inspiring posts and graphics.

  6. January 22, 2015 / 6:35 am

We seem to think alike, it is great to take the time to appreciate the amazing things our bodies are capable of! And I must say you look pretty great to me in that selfie!!

  7. January 22, 2015 / 7:51 am

Maureen, you look great in your pictures. Love your realization that your body was made perfectly for you. We all need to focus on giving our bodies what they need to carry us through life not focus on what needs to be fixed because of someone else’s standards. And I love to get my “squat on” :), love, love, love them because they’ve kept my butt lifted all these years.

  8. January 22, 2015 / 2:44 pm

I do love myself but I think I should learn how to stay fit and love exercise. It’s been a struggle going to the gym and get active

  9. January 22, 2015 / 3:04 pm

I think we’re all guilty of noticing more the little bulges and fail to see our overall health. This link up would help you be more aware of your health, fitness and diet.

  10. January 22, 2015 / 4:27 pm

I Must admit I thought about writing this one but wrote about the complete opposite – body bashing! I think I’ll write a ‘love my body’ one in the future though. Love your thoughts and appreciation for your body. Its awesome to here 🙂

  11. January 22, 2015 / 10:41 pm

Agree with the squats! They make the backside look fab. Now if only I can muster up the energy to commit to squatting regularly…… 🙁

what a great read! i would never have thought of it at that perspective

  13. January 23, 2015 / 2:39 am

Excellently written introspective article. I’m not sure we all recognize what our body can do despite everything that may seem wrong with it.

  15. January 23, 2015 / 10:15 pm

This is so inspiring! Thank you so much for reminding me to love my body even more. Kudos!

  16. January 24, 2015 / 9:05 am

Empowering women, self image. True, I’ve just told my students, tip for my girl students (women), “you should first love yourself, and men will be lining up to love you!” Love comes from within, it radiates outside and attract the same energy, LOVE!

I’d have my future wife read these tips of yours. Such an interesting post for women! Great job!

  17. January 24, 2015 / 3:12 pm

Mbak Maureen, keren postingannyaa. It’s inspiring me to do squats! 😀

  18. January 26, 2015 / 3:44 am

I certainly needed this. I was just thinking the other day about how there are so many things that I wish would change and since I am getting older, they won’t change. So I have to change my mind instead.

  19. January 26, 2015 / 9:08 am

I love that you can identify what you love about your body. I’m trying to teach my 5 year old to focus on the things she loves her body instead of finding flaws.

  20. January 28, 2015 / 8:12 am

Love your blog and posts! Keep up the good work 😉
