Wellness Wednesday Linky Party

Welcome to the first Wellness Wednesday link up, friends!

Wellness Wednesday

In case you miss it, Rina from CuteCoconut and I are teaming up for a new exciting link up party called Wellness Wednesday and today is our party.

What first started as your typical weight loss plan has taken me on quite a journey throughout these past few years. I have my ups and downs.

I successfully lose the weights, looked the fittest I have ever been then was stricken down with herniated discs. If you are not familiar with herniated discs, let me just tell you that the pain is so excruciating there are days that even sneezing make me feel like my body is being ripped in two.

So why didn’t I stop already?

Well, I did stop…I took long rest from working out and I gained my weights back. Here I am in the freshness of 2015 committing myself to get back to fully live healthier again.

What motivates me the most to start living a healthier lifestyle?

  1. My son.

Healthy UsI want to be around for a long time to see him grow up to be a fine healthy young man. Living by example is what I choose although sometimes I failed to show him a good example. At the age of 7 years old he starts reading ingredients labels whenever we go to grocery shopping and recognize Monosodium glutamate. That is MSG by the way. It is important for me to teach him about what is healthy and what is not. We discussed about processed foods, sugar and other health issues. He is also my biggest supporter on this journey. He told me once “Mommy, I like it when you work out.” Isn’t that wonderful to hear? He knows that I am a much happier mother when I do my work out. We sometimes even work out using my many DVDs together. His current favorite workout? Les Mills Combat![Tweet “My son is my biggest motivation to live a healthier lifestyle #wellnesswedneday #gowellnessday”]

  1. Breaking the diabetes “curse”.

Throughout these years I had learned that the myth that diabetes runs in the family is a not true! Yes, your predisposition genes might cause you to be more sensitive to sugar BUT it doesn’t mean you will automatically inherit this disease! Almost as long as I can remember, this myth has been passed around. The famous theory that if your father has diabetes then it will get inherit by the daughter is no longer valid. What being passed down is the eating pattern. We learn from our parents and their parents’ parents what is normal. If your mother is an emotional eater, chances are you will follow her path because it seems normal and all those snacks she eats? Yes, they will become diabetes one day down the line if you are not careful. Both my parents have diabetes now. My father lost a toe and a large chunk of skin on his left foot because of gangrene caused by yours truly, diabetes. Seeing closely how diabetes affected their lives, I am more determined than ever to make sure I don’t get it too. How? By living a healthier lifestyle of course! Learning more about diabetes made me realized I am far more sensitive to sugar and fructose than other people.

  1. I want to live a great life!

Not just floating through life and make excuse for aches and pains as parts of getting old. When you are healthy, you can live your life to the fullest. You can travel and enjoying the beauty that this life has to offer. My back pain made me realize how precious our health is and how sometimes we easily take it for granted until it was taken from us. Knowing that I own the power to nurture myself from the inside out is powerful. Living healthy for me is no longer about losing weights. It is so much deeper now with far greater understanding of my own body. My journey taught me to become more in tuned with myself, it taught me my limitations and to honor that and find what works for me. I may not be a hardcore crossfit girl due to my back but being still in hot yoga grounded me. I realized I am not competing with anyone but me.

Love your reasons for being motivated to live a healthy lifestyle! I can’t imagine having a herniated disc though I do know it is quite painful- my hubby is a chiro and I hear him tell me about cases all the time and how debilitating it can be! Good for you for making fitness and healthy living a priority still! 🙂

    • January 8, 2015 / 7:52 am

Thank you so much Annmarie, yes it is the kind of pain you wouldn’t want to wish even on your worse enemy 😀 I’ve been told chiropractor can help but I just haven’t try it yet. Maybe soon.

  5. January 7, 2015 / 10:44 pm

Hii, Maureen. Sorry I’m late. Actually I’ve already post mine about yesterday (autopost for today). It’s about my motivation. It’s in Bahasa. Should I link in this comment or not? I’m still confuse, hehe.. (sorry)

Oh ya, about the prompts for 14th Jan, I don’t get the number 4. I think you forget to finish line, or it isn’t? 😀 Sorry, my English is still bad. I’m trying my best. I hope you understand what I mean.

    • January 8, 2015 / 7:53 am

  7. January 8, 2015 / 1:33 am

Those life challenges make us stronger, don’t they? My first reality check was the death of a childhood friend. In fact, today it would have been her 40st birthday if she hadn’t died of leukemia 2 days before turning 35yo leaving a teenage daughter (she was single mom).
My second reality check was being diagnosed with a brain tumor at about 2.5 years ago.
We learn to put things into perspective. Let’s do it in 2015!

    • January 8, 2015 / 8:00 am

They sure do Debbie! I am truly sorry to hear about your childhood friend. Loosing someone you love is always difficult.

Yes, we got this! Let’s make 2015 our best year yet! Thank you for linking up.

  8. January 8, 2015 / 5:16 am

    • January 8, 2015 / 8:04 am

All the best for your running and routine Alissa. I have never heard of Kayla Itsines before so I will check it out.

  10. January 8, 2015 / 8:33 am

looks like our motivations are similar!!

  11. January 8, 2015 / 5:41 am

It's a blessing that you got your son to motivate you. Other than that, own discipline is important too.

  12. January 8, 2015 / 5:48 am

It's always good to dedicate time to wellness.. Im starting one this year.. I just hope it could last!

  13. January 8, 2015 / 7:16 am

Feel free to join now if you wish LaToya, the linky is open until Saturday but anytime you can join we would be honored. And thank you so much for your encouraging words. I am with you that it is a lifestyle not just how to lose 10 pounds fast scheme 🙂

  14. January 8, 2015 / 7:17 am

Thank you Elana, yes discipline is very important because there are days when I don't feel like going to the gym or working out but once I do it anyway I feel great and I never regret it 😀

  15. January 8, 2015 / 7:18 am

You can do it! Believe in yourself, commit to it and see the changes 😀

  16. January 8, 2015 / 3:00 pm

Yes, family is the biggest motivation. My husband smokes but when talking about healthier lifestyle he actually one step ahead of me: drinks a lot of water, prefers fruits and veggies, enough sleep every night.

  17. January 8, 2015 / 4:03 pm

It’s nice that you found your motivation in your son. We should really strive for a healthy and fit life so we can watch out families reach more milestones.

It's nice how you do this not just for yourself but mainly for your son. It kind of made me tear a little when you said you want to be around for him. I mean, some mom nowadays work out to "look good" so your reason is quite touching. 🙂

  22. January 8, 2015 / 6:33 pm

Kudos! Keep up the good work. I am motivated to start a healthier lifestyle because i want to have a good heath, fit body and feel good.

    • January 9, 2015 / 7:36 pm

Understandably so Fred, I cannot imagine the pressure of working in the hospital. It is easy to see why some of our healthcare employees are not that healthy. Thank you for stopping by 🙂

Thank you so much Janice! 🙂

  35. January 10, 2015 / 8:35 pm

Ooohh! I want to join, I need this to inspire and push to doing some work outs. Btw, my daughter is a juvenile diabetes and we found out when she was 5, now it has been 5 years that we are monitoring and taking care of her sugar with artificial insulin injections. I believe any trace of diabetes in the genes can be reversed with proper eating lifestyle and living actively.

    • January 10, 2015 / 8:52 pm

Hi Joy, we would love it if you can join us. Next week perhaps? You can sign up and we will email you the prompts.

I am aware that one can actually reversed diabetic through strict plant based raw food diet. 🙂 Have you try that?

    • January 12, 2015 / 3:00 pm
