Chalean Extreme Result – Burn Phase Completed

A month has passed by. I completed my supposed to be 3 months challenge of no carbohydrates yesterday. After reviewing my body fat percentage, we agreed to stop and just maintain my healthy eating habit and keep working out from now on.

At first it was so darn hard going from Monday to Friday with no carbs such as rice. We, Indonesian people love our rice. Before I took the challenge, I thought I was doing pretty good. Sugarless since October and eating red rice but as I learned more about clean healthy eating, I realized that there were so many hidden bad fats etc in the food that I thought was ok.

Understanding that being healthy is 70% clean eating and 30% working out, I came to appreciate the whole journey even more. It’s no longer about how much weights I drop but how much body fat percentage I can nip in the butt. Also, I stopped weighing myself daily. Once a week is enough now.

After just a week, when I eagerly wanting to eat Nasi Padang (traditional rice with rendang, etc from West Sumatra) on my cheat day, my stomach gave up only after a few bites of the rice. The coach told me this before but I thought, really? Well, it happened to me.

From a month of really watching what I’m eating – NO…I’m not counting calories at all, I hate counting in general so that’s too much of a pain for me – I really start to feel amazing. Seriously, I am not starving…I eat 6 times a day. Another bonus? I had returned to the kitchen and cook my own food. Thank God for Pinterest! Got to eat lots and lots of really yummy and healthy food.

What do I eat? Healthy non-processed food. I load up on protein (fish, chicken, beef), lots of veggies (oh those roasted veggies are so yummy!), and tons of fruits. I do occasionally eat some oatmeal for breakfast but none of those crap instant ones. Rolled oats with fruits. Thank God for my bestfriend, T who is like my health guru. From her and Mr. Google I’ve learned so much and making far better choices when it comes to food.

Jessica from Mommyhood Next Right asked what my workout regiment now so here goes.

I quit working out with my personal trainer. Besides from the financial reasons, I thought I’d like to challenge myself and see how I do without him.

My choice?

Chalean Extreme, Baby!

At first, I tried Turbo Fire but all those pivoting turned out to be a lot harder and my knees was hurting. Maybe I didn’t do it right but I skipped to Chalean Extreme and I fell in love!

Chalean Extreme incorporated a lot of weight training (using dumbbells and bands) with days of cardio workout and high intensity ones. Following their calendar, you workout 5 days a week. It’s a 90 days program and today I officially completed my first 30 days aka the Burn Phase. The program comes in The BURN phase, the PUSH phase, the LEAN phase and the LEAN FOR LIFE phase. Each phase is designed to create that muscle confusion that we all need to keep our bodies guessing and prevent plateaus that we all seem to inevitably hit at one point or another. The goal of ChaLEAN is to lift heavy with fewer reps. Also I love how Chalene Johnson always remind you of how important eating clean is. As long as you work hard and eat healthy, I believe this program will really gives you the results you want.

How do I feel?

Oh hella good! Seriously, I never got to stick with any workout DVD ever before so for me to hit play every.single.morning is a huge milestones in my life. There are some days like Saturdays where I missed on the workout because I was out and about. I made it up by doing it on the other rest day.

Chalean isn’t over the top obnoxious trainer. She’s amazing. I love her vibes and her style so it was so much easy to stick with the program.

Go heavy or go home!” is her mantra and I breathe and live that. After only one month, I’ve bought another set of dumbbells weighing 4kilos (8.8lbs) but I knew I could’ve gone to 5kilos (10lbs) soon just a matter of waiting for my pay day.

The movements are no joke, I tell ya! I had never sweat so much even when I was working out at the gym. My bedroom floor will be wet from my sweats and I had to hit pause, wiped the floor down and continue just so I don’t slip and break my neck or something.

From a month of no-carbs and working out using this DVD, I’ve only lost 2 kg (4.4lbs) not a whole lot right? But look at these numbers below. They don’t lie!  Most importantly, my body fat went down 5%! My starting body fat last month was 27%. Do you know how over the moon I felt about this? From June to July, working with my ex trainer, I didn’t lose any body fat at all and I was frustrated.

So here’s my stats from July (taken by my ex-trainer) and the new one after completing Chalean Extreme’s first month combined with healthy eating of no carbs. I am now in a safe zone, I met my goal of body fat percentage so it’s just a matter of maintaining it and getting leaner, building more muscles from now on.

Thank you so much, Maria. Yes, I do get used to it but now I’m slowly eating healthy carbs again 😀

My gosh, there’s a HUGE difference between July and August. The muscle tone and posture, even. You rock! Don’t stop, whatever you do. If you feel disillusioned, bored, whatever – just switch to something else – but keep it up. It shows all over, including your attitude and I must say – it’s inspiring!

Thank you so very much Nami. I am taking a rest today before starting my second month tomorrow. I do plan on combining the workout with other programs or hit the gym but I am actually loving the fact that I don’t have to leave the house to get some sweat lol although I do love the Body Pump class at this new gym I’m going to right now. You’re too kind, thanks so much for your support 😀 Really, it means a lot!

Love love love it! You look great and congratulations to you!
Discipline and consistency have been my weak points, want to lose the weight and fat but doing halfheartedly!
Changing into healthier lifestyle sure is tough! reading your journey has inspired me, showed me this real woman could do it and so do I! Thank you for always updating your changing into healthier lifestyle journey!

Thanks Di! Of course you can do it, if I can do it anyone can too. I think once you make working out and eating healthy a habit, it’ won’t feel like such a hard work.
For some reasons, I’m not interested to try Zumba, don’t get me wrong it’s fine but I prefer to do Body Pump class 😀

Awww, thank you Ruth! 🙂 Now I realized that no matter how hard one workout at the gym or whatever if it’s not backed up with healthy eating then it’s pretty much useless.

This is awesome, Maureen! I am so inspired by your journey! I tried clean eating, but stopped. I definitely need to get back into it, though.

How long are the Chalean extreme workouts? I saw the preview and wanted to give them a try but I worried that they were too long. Is that the case?

Oh, and as always, you look amazing!
