When we – as in we I meant my sister in law and me – found out we will be going to Tanjung Bira last year we quickly fell in love with The Amatoa Resort.
The Amatoa Resort Review
Location: built into a cliff on the southern most tip of Sulawesi, the full address is: Jl. Pasir Putih 6, Bulukumba, Bira, Makassar 46003, Indonesia.
How to get there: From Makassar there is no flight to get there so you will need to rent a car. You can rent one from IDR 400,000 (USD 40) in Makassar including a driver and gas to drop you in Tanjung Bira. It’s a 5 hours drive but with lots of great views to entertain you along the way.
We booked the resort through Agoda.com and since I already spoke to the Resort Manager on the phone prior to checking in, the whole process was easy and smooth. We just had to wait for a little because the room was being cleaned.
While waiting for check-in process, we lounge outside the ‘front office’ and just soaked up the view. It was incredibly beautiful!
We decided to order lunch and although it took quite awhile, we were served with one of the best fresh traditional fish soup I had ever tasted!
We got the biggest room which is their Suite Family Room and it was placed on the very far corner of the resort. It was a bit of a hike on stairs to get up there but what awaits us was breathtaking! As far as you can see…blue clear sky and the ocean. Just gorgeous!
Our room have 3 beds, Air Cons, a big open bathroom that looks a bit creepy at night, but it blends perfectly with the whole design of the resort.
For us 3 adults, 2 kids…the room was suitable. So if you travel in a group this will be great options as you can split the cost.
One of the key attraction from The Amatoa Resort is their stairs that go directly into the ocean. Yes, you read that right! When we go there the waves were pretty big and the rock around the cliffs made me hesitated to jump in but not for my daredevil sister in law and cousin. Look at them!
You really can’t go wrong choosing to stay at The Amatoa Resort since they have the best view and their infinity pool is to die for. We soaked up the sun by the pool, swimming with the kids. Watching the sun setting.
Sitting right off the cliff and watching the sun setting and seeing the first star made their appearance was an experience that made you appreciate how beautiful God has created this world.
Food and Beverages
While The Amatoa Resorts do provide breakfast, their options are limited probably due to logistical reasons. Here’s a picture of our very basic breakfast. Hopefully, soon they can cater to more options for their guests.
Our lunch like I said before was great. Delicious and I can’t complaint.
For dinner, we opted to venture out and try the local seafood warung.
The Amatoa Resorts can assist you if you want to go snorkeling. They will arrange the boats and gears too. Read more about that part on my Tanjung Bira post.
The service part could be improved, of course, but the true values that The Amatoa Resorts offer truly are the views, the beautiful pool and the amazingly crystal clear water that calls your name to jump in and swim.
Will I return? Oh yes, I definitely will one day with my man.
