Event Kedai DBS “Let’s Spark Joy: Live Well, Save Well”

Who knew yoga at the park in the morning can be so much fun that left me feeling quite sore two days later?

I was completely blown away when I walked into Taman Menteng last Saturday on 12 September 2015. First of all, it has been many years since the last time I even passed that area, secondly…I have no idea that such park even exists!

Invited by Mommies Daily, I came excited to attend DBS Bank Event called “Let’s Spark Joy: Live Well, Save Well.” DBS Bank introduced their new campaign through Kedai DBS. Kedai is an Indonesian word, loosely translated means “shop, stall, or stand”.

“Kedai DBS Let’s Spark Joy: Live Well, Save Well”

Let's Spark Joy- Live Well, Save Well

The event was the first of DBS kick start campaign and I feel enthusiastic to able to participate that day especially because it means more and more companies are focusing on health. Which is awesome!

Widrawan Hindrawan, Head of Wealth Management PT Bank DBS Indonesia shared the statistics from the Indonesia Financial Services Authority (FSA) that 75% of household financial are managed by women yet unfortunately, only 51% of these women have financial planning in placed. This may relate to the level of financial literacy of Indonesian women who are relatively lower compared to men. FSA survey in 2013 showed that the level of financial literacy of women is still quite low at 18. 84%, while men are 25%.

When women are more financially literate then they can better manage their family’s finance thus creating a better future for herself and her family.” Said Widrawan. “Women are the COO of their household therefore, it is crucial for women to live well, to stay well.” He added.

Aside from financial planning, modern women are also encouraged to invest on their health. All women should do this, pronto!

Fajar Putra Instructor Acro-Yoga PenYoga Star shared the many benefits of doing yoga for the body, mind and soul. I absolutely love what he said about our health as our greatest investment because it is so true. Don’t you think? Through yoga practice, we learn to listen to our body, to respect our body and to create happiness. Yoga can truly bring peace in a chaotic modern women’s daily life of juggling the many hats we wear.

CEO & Founder Female Daily Network Hanifa Ambadar shared the importance of healthy nutrition for women to help live well. She shared her own experience in choosing the right investment, in learning about them and juggling life as a successful busy woman. Hani’s message that women need to be comfortable with number resonated so much with me being a single mom and all. How? By learning about financial things, about investment, pension plans, life insurance and all the details. After all the basis are covered then she said she doesn’t have to worry about it anymore. What an important message to spread!

The panelist

After the short sharing session, Fajar invited everyone to get on their provided yoga mats and we did some basic yoga flows. What is Acro-Yoga? A relatively new ‘form’ of yoga using some what seems like acrobatic moves. Think cirque du soleil meets yoga plus acrobatic!

It was so much fun although I choose to not participate in the actual Acro-Yoga move (big shout out to my partner Yesthi!) since my back is just not strong enough for those acrobatic moves. I did however managed to do some partner stretches that really felt delicious on the hamstrings and glutes.

Look at these moves! How cool is that?

She's flying!

Acro yoga

When I asked about herniated discs and Acro-Yoga, Fajar suggested that I do not do it just yet and instead focus on the basic yoga first to build a stronger core. Right on!

All in all, it was a great event and I wish Kedai DBS lots of success with their campaign and may more companies will follow their footsteps!

It was another successful event from Mommies Daily – Congrats, guys!

Looks like it was a fun (and successful) event! I LOVE yoga. I try and go to the yoga studio at least twice a week if my schedule allows. I’d love to try Acro-Yoga <3

Twice a week is awesome! Well done, you! 🙂 I need to get back to my workout including yoga.

That looks like lots of fun. My doctor recommends yoga for my back troubles. A stronger core changes everything!

    • September 23, 2015 / 11:57 am

Absolutely, a strong core will help our backs. I wish you well, my back is pretty messed up too. 🙂

It makes total sense that a person handling family finances should have some degree of financial literacy. It’s nice to see a bank interested in customer’s other needs as well as their finance.

    • September 23, 2015 / 11:58 am

That’s what I thought so too 🙂 I really think it is a great approach for the bank to do.

I totally agree that our health is our greatest investment. I’m also impressed with those moves! I would definitely have to stick to regular yoga for a while.

    • September 23, 2015 / 11:59 am

Oh yes, regular yoga is what’s in my future too but I do miss anti-gravity yoga which helps my back so much. Too bad the studio nearby my place closed down.

Wow, for a bank to set up a yoga meet up, that’s pretty cool. I do agree more men seem to know numbers better, but women tend to manage the households budget, so its only wise for women to understand finances. Now my husband manages it out of honor to him as the head of our household, but I record my receipts and make sure I’m within budget on household shopping. It helps, but I would be a little baffled one day if I had to step in and figure out when and how to pay certain bills.

    • September 23, 2015 / 12:02 pm

When I was still married, I let my ex husband handled everything. The financial side of the marriage because I’m just not that good with budgeting but I am learning to do things differently now. You seems to be doing great as a team with your husband tho.

Those acro-yoga shots are amazing. What a cool and fun way to focus on your health. I would love to see more of this.

    • September 23, 2015 / 12:03 pm

Thanks Tyra, I too was amazed watching these people 😀

  7. September 22, 2015 / 12:47 pm

Honestly, I am not into yoga but I agree that health is a great and rewarding investment. I admire the strength of their legs and their sense of balance 🙂

    • September 23, 2015 / 12:06 pm

I think any forms of exercise is better than not doing anything 🙂 Thanks for stopping by, Marts!
