5 Reasons Why Being Fit Rocks

It’s been nearly 4 months since I’ve been changing my lifestyle. Emphasis on lifestyle change please, not diet. I hate that word now. Diet…yuck!

Physically I feel stronger and better than I’ve ever been. My energy levels are sky rocketing since I feel I am in a better shape.

For the fun of it, here are some not-so-little reasons why I love being fit

  1. To be able to do a strong squat down over those nasty public toilet seats. I’m a bit of a germ phobia when it comes to public toilet, especially here in Indonesia where some of them are just absolutely nasty. Being able to squat and hover above them without feeling like you’re going to fall and smack your face to the wet floor feels hella good, I tell ya!
  2. Groceries made easy. Now, I chose to use handheld shopping basket. Before, whenever I try to do this, I’d be out of breath after two isles down. Now, I can fill the basket up and walk without panting like an old bulldog. Don’t forget to be able to carry several shopping bags all at one, dude!
  3. To be able to place some heavy dumbbells sets on the cashier’s desk and see the total awe in those girls faces. Some asked me “Are you strong enough to carry them out the store?” as they struggle to pick them up, got it scanned and packed. With a wink I usually told them “Watch me!” and sashaying my way out.
  4. To eat some sinfully delicious cake on the weekend – something I usually avoid altogether before and thinking. “Meh, I’ll burn the suckers down with my workout tomorrow!” and enjoy every bit of those deliciousness.
  5. To be able to use my 50 pounds boy as a weight. He loves it and thinks I’m roughhousing him plus he totally love his now stronger mommy. Please note, no child has been harm during this playful act of ‘exercise’. Or how he sometimes told me to flex my arms and shows some guns in front of his uncles.

Being fit really is fun and I am lovin’ it big time. Can’t you tell?

Hilarious and true reasons, especially #1. And loved the pictures of you using your son as a weight. I bet he loved getting a “ride” from mommy (that’s what my daughter calls it when my hubby plays around with her like that).

I admire your dedication and motivation. I would like to love a few pounds and tone up and I have every bit of mental motivation to do so, but have no physical motivation. Is there any advice you could give me to start out? I have a gym membership, but no one to go with so I never go :-/ I’d like a healthy lifestyle change and be a positive role model for my daughter.

Awww thank you so much. Your question actually inspired me to write a new blog post – hopefully I can get around to it and start typing it. When I first started, I went to the gym alone…I understand and I knew how intimidating it could be. I was scared as I didn’t know what to do but I picked a small gym so that may help in a way. Your daughter will be a great motivation for you as she already is, I’m sure 🙂 I find it that when I just ‘do it’ and not thinking about it too much I can get it done quicker. Maybe pick a time where you can go to the gym or even working out from home and just set yourself to do it. I’m combining working out from home using DVDs and going to the gym right now. The first steps are always the harder. Thank you for your kind words and I wish you all the best.

Great! I look forward to seeing that post 🙂 I think I need someone to ‘hold my hand’ at first to get me going, then I think I can attend the gym myself. It is very intimidating! I just give you so much credit, being a single mom to a young child and still finding time and energy to work out and stay in shape. Many kudos to you mama! Thanks for the wishes! I’ll need them! I’ll look for that new post!

Oh my God, good for you! Ticking off Cashiers is a favorite past-time of mine but doing curls with the kids (as the weights) is just AWESOME! I can’t say this often enough – you really, really, look fantastic. And I don’t mean just on the outside.

Oh, your boy has gotten so big and you’ve gotten so strong.

I am so proud of the way you have steered your life into what you want it to be.

That takes determination and planning, Mo: not easy when you’re a single mother.

Very hard work, and you’ve never given in: you’ve seen it through.

    So awesome.
